What is a dental implant?
A permanent replacement, from the root up
A dental implant is a small titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. Over a few months it fuses with your jawbone (osseointegration), creating a strong, stable base. A custom crown is then attached as the visible tooth.
Because an implant stands on its own, nothing is taken from the healthy teeth next to it, and with proper care it can last a lifetime.
Three parts, one natural-looking tooth
- Implant: a titanium post that replaces the tooth root
- Abutment: a small connector that holds the new tooth
- Crown: a custom-shaded tooth matched to your smile
Implant options
One missing tooth or a whole new smile
Every option is planned with a 3D CBCT scan, so your implants are placed exactly where your bone can support them.

Implants vs bridges vs dentures
All three replace missing teeth. Here is how they differ for the things patients tell us matter most.
| Dental implant | Bridge | Removable denture | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Replaces the tooth root | ✓ Yes | ✕ No | ✕ No |
| Leaves neighbouring teeth untouched | ✓ Yes | ✕ Teeth are reshaped | ✓ Mostly |
| Helps preserve jawbone | ✓ Yes | ✕ No | ✕ No |
| Stable when eating and speaking | ✓ Fixed in place | ✓ Fixed in place | Can slip or move |
| Daily care | Brush and floss like natural teeth | Clean under the bridge | Remove and soak |
| How long it lasts | Implant can last a lifetime with good care | Usually replaced over time | Usually relined or replaced over time |
Every mouth is different. Your dentist will explain which options suit you, including their risks, benefits and costs.
Your treatment, step by step
What to expect from consultation to final tooth
Consultation and 3D scan
Digital photos, a CBCT scan and a full exam of your teeth and gums, then a conversation about your goals.
Your treatment plan
Your options, expected timeline and a written quote. Financing can be arranged at participating clinics.
Implant placement
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, using guided or freehand surgery planned from your scans. Sedation is available.
Healing
Over a few months the implant bonds with your jawbone. A temporary tooth can often be worn in the meantime.
Your new tooth
A custom crown, bridge or denture is attached, colour-matched and adjusted for a natural bite.
Is it right for you?
You may be a good candidate for implants if…
Most healthy adults can have dental implants. If you have lost bone, a graft can often rebuild it first. Your dentist will confirm what is right for you after your 3D scan.
Good signs
- You are missing one or more teeth
- Your dentures are loose or uncomfortable
- A tooth needs to come out and you want a lasting replacement
- Your gums are healthy, or you are ready to treat gum disease first
- You would rather not grind down healthy teeth for a bridge

About our prices. *Starting prices reflect current implant, crown and denture costs for a typical patient. They do not include the CT scan ($100), which confirms the right implant for you. Some cases need extra treatment, such as extractions or bone grafting, so your final price may differ; you will always receive a quote first. Prices may change if our supplier costs change.
Questions
Dental implant questions
Straight answers to the questions patients ask us most. Your dentist will go through everything that applies to you at your free consultation.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. It is placed in the jawbone, where it bonds with the bone over a few months (a process called osseointegration). A custom crown, bridge or denture is then attached on top, so the new tooth looks, feels and works like a natural one.
How long do dental implants last?
The implant itself is designed to be permanent. With good daily brushing and flossing and regular check-ups, it can last a lifetime. The crown on top takes the wear of everyday chewing and may need replacing after many years, which is simple because the implant stays in place.
Does getting a dental implant hurt?
Implant placement is done under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Most patients describe recovery as mild soreness for a few days, managed with over-the-counter pain relief. If you feel anxious, ask about our sedation options.
Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
Most adults with one or more missing teeth can have implants. What matters most is healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold the implant, and if bone has been lost, a bone graft can often rebuild it. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smoking can slow healing, so your dentist will review your health history, take a 3D CBCT scan and confirm your options at your consultation.
How long does the whole implant process take?
It depends on your case. A single implant usually takes a few months from placement to the final crown, because the bone needs time to bond with the implant. If you need an extraction or bone graft first, allow extra healing time. Your treatment plan includes an expected timeline before you commit to anything.
What are your implants made of, and which brands do you use?
Our implants are titanium. We use established implant systems including Straumann, Hiossen, Neodent, Nobel and Megagen, chosen to suit your condition and preferences. Ceramic (metal-free) Straumann implants can also be ordered on request.
How do I look after a dental implant?
Just like natural teeth: brush twice a day, clean between your teeth daily with floss or interdental brushes, and keep up with regular check-ups and cleanings. Healthy gums are the key to a long-lasting implant.
